Microsoft has recently announced that their document collaboration tool Microsoft Groove will be renamed Microsoft SharePoint Workplace and will be included in the Professional edition of Office 2010. Currently, Groove and OneNote currently ship only with Office 2007 Enterprise and Office 2007 Ultimate, two of the the most expensive versions.
The Redmond giant claims that the name change is a natural progression since Groove and SharePoint, simiarly to Outlook and Exchange are meant to walk hand in hand.
Furthermore, it has been said that SharePoint Workplace will not just be the same product with a new name - Microsoft promises to add many features that make the software easier to use and allow customers to be more productive.
In March 2008, Microsoft said that it had sold 100 million copies of SharePoint, generating $1 billion in related revenue.
